Shadows of the Future

Shadows of the Future

It’s been a long day - it is a long night.
I sit here – my mind wanders – I must look a fright.
I had a funny feeling just the other day.
I don’t know how to put it any other way.
I saw myself in a distant place in time – I was searching frantically –
For something I could not find.
I was lost and there was nothing left of me –
Only the shell of who I used to be.
I got the strangest feeling that this is how it will be.
One day I’ll be searching but, there will be no one left to see.
So I’ll take off walking - I won’t know where to go –
I’ll just be searching for anyone I know.
But, I won’t find them for they will all have disappeared.
Maybe if I’m lucky I’ll find them in a different place or another year.
Right then all I’ll be able to do is disappear maybe in the future I can reappear.
