    Poem Commentary

Because my Mother was so ill for so long

    The Great Healer

You lay there and you wonder as you are very sick
if this is not the end, is this really it

But as the skillful hands of the doctor perform there
    miraculous deeds

You understand the real Healer is there and you pray
that Doc will follow His guidance and heed

You begin to believe that God is wonderful
and your situation isn't so bad

Why your starting to feel better already
Doc, your a pretty skilled lad

Why do we always pray to God
when things seem so dark and bleak

And when things start to get better
we think His help we didn't really need

Don't believe you can make it without Him
    don't ever make that mistake

For one day Doc's skills may not work
and you will find yourself standing at God's gate

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
