    the setting sun

as i stare into the failing light,
a glimpse of the place where day meets night,
hard to focus, cant adjust my sight,
it seems a metaphor of life.

the setting sun begins to fade,
reflecting on the promises I've made,
through lifes troubled waters I've had to wade,
    i ran away when i should've stayed.

darkness starts to cover the land,
i sit alone, no-one to hold my hand,
the hour glass spills its final sand,
    sits alone, this broken man.

the glimmering stars,so bright and clear,
so beautiful,it almost brings a tear,
what tomorrow brings is always unclear,
but i must face it and show no fear.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
