Wait

I sit alone and wait for the dawn,
Thinking about this lot that I've drawn.

Obstacles always littering my path,
Impatience blossoms and I struggle with its wrath.

I see the future clearly and I understand my fate,
But I am only human and I struggle against your urgings to wait.

I push to stay active trying to force time to follow my will,
Soft voices warmly whisper, stop struggling and be still.

I hear their whisper promises and know them to be true,
But I am only human and I believe there is something I can do.

You'll only create more obstacles is what they sweetly say,
But I'll continue to push against them because I know no other way.

Once more before the dawn they urge me to await your time,
But I am only human and I want it done in mine.

Simple wisdom and truth, you express it so effortlessly. We all want it done in our time, but patience is sometimes forced upon us whether we like it or not.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
