2 CHEER A FRIEND

If I were to cheer a friend

First to do is let them in

Make them welcome give them love

Let them know they’re well thought of

Primp them press them like a flower

Dote upon them by the hour

Not that they’re the less impressed

But they’re fond of your caress

Genuine and thoughtful too

How they’ve made the most of you

The best way you could cheer a friend

Is to mirror them within

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
