The Stretch Before Reaching

The stretch before reaching

Is kind of slow

You see a thing, you want a thing

You can’t let go

It’s within your grasp

It lingers so near

The question remains

Is it touch you fear?

Cause you never quite get it

It’s just not for you

You stretch just before reaching

What good does that do?

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
