A little Red Bird

    A little Red Bird

One morning I sat by the fire

Gazing out the window at the new fallen snow

    Everywhere that it lay

    Was like crystals all aglow

    I heard a slight noise

    about my kitchen window seal

There was a little red bird

    that just couldn't be still

    He seemed to be lost

    Yet he seemed so kind

His family flew south for the winter

    And had left him behind

    He sang a little tune

that was so sweet and fair

As he stood there and shivered

Giving me this odd little stare

    As the north wind blew

    at their highest peak

The little bird looked up at me

    Like he wanted to speak

I then went to the attic

for some things I needed to find

A little birdhouse I had made

    Suddenly came to mind

I lined the floor with some cotton

    From an old ragged quilt

    got an old bird feeder

That my late husband had built

    The little bird stepped aside

As I sat it on the seal

    He was shaking so badly

    He just couldn't be still

Now he lived by my window

    all winter long

    Chirping and singing

    That same little song

I cared for him and fed him

Kept him in that little shack

Then on spring day he flew off

    His family had come back

    Jesus once said,

    While walking by the sea

    What you do to others

    You do to me.

So stretch out your hand to a stranger

even though it may seem absurd

    God will greatly bless you

Even if it's a little red bird.

to help even a bird is helping another in life get threw to another day and they go on to help someone else like paying it forward

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.
