The Story of Bonnie & Clyde

This is about a couple who lived on the edge
Till the day they both died
    This is the story of
    The legendary Bonnie & Clyde

    Bonnie Parker was a waitress
In a little diner so called bar
Where one night she caught a burgler
Trying to steal her momma's car

    A handsome young Stallion
With a pistol strapped to his side
She was so intrigued and captivated
By this sly man named Clyde

So she ran off with this Clyde Barrow
Even became his partner in crime
    Killing and robbing and stealing
And never doing a minute of time

They came upon a gas station
    Robbing it was their plan
But instead they kidnapped the attendant
    C.W. Moss, a kind of dim-witted man

    C.W. soon fitted right in
And their crime spree shifted into high gear
They kept on with the robbings and killings
    Showing no signs of fear

Jealous of the fortune, Clydes Brother Buck
He and his wife Blanche wanted in
So clyde agreed to them joining the gang
That's where all the trouble began

    Blanche was a preachers daughter
She thought she did no wrong
She met her match with Bonnie Parker
Cause they didn't even get along

Buck and Clyde were known killers now
Were corrupt and had acquired a little fame.
Blanche didn't like it at all
And on Bonnie, laid all the blame

They'd graduated from the small time
And were now hitting the banks
So they called in the "Big Guns"
An Old Texas Ranger named Frank

With all the robbing and killing
    They'd made theirselves a name
But Frank Hammer was out for Justice
He wasn't there to play no game

    He came out of retirement
Just to hunt the two down
There was alot of talk and gossip
When he and his rangers came into town

He had them cornered in a bank
In a shootout the bullets began to fly
Buck was shot in the chest
He had to lay there and die

    Looking for a way out
    They left Blanche behind
    Buckshot filled her eyes
    And now she's permantly blind

    Scurring out the back
    C.W., Bonnie and Clyde
    All bloody and skinned up
Looking for a place to hide

    Not clearly thinking right
C.W. drove right to his dad
Seeing how corrupt his son had become
    The man became extreamly mad

    He didn't like the idea
    But he let them stay
He told them when they were well
They could be on their way

Mr. Moss didn't fancy Bonnie & Clyde
So he came up with a plan
He picked up the phone and dialed one day
And said, "Get me the Man"

    "Frank Hammer, Texas Ranger"
Is what the voice on the other end said
I got Bonnie & Clyde here,
You want em' Alive or Dead?

Together they sat up an ambush
    On a lonely Louisiana Road
    Not very far at all
From old Man Moss's humble abode

Acting as bait, he flattened his tire
And there in the road he sat
    Along came Bonnie & Clyde
He stood to his feet waving his hat

    They slowed down to see
"I got a flat" old man Moss said
Clyde got out to help the man
They opened fire and shot both of them dead

Through all the killing and robbing
Bonnie Parker had a story to tell
She was quite the little poet
    And wrote very well

"The street Girl" & "The story of Suicide Sal"
Two she wrote before she died
But the best and last one she wrote was
"The Story Of Bonnie & Clyde"

i am in a band and we were in the middle of writing this song about bonnie and clyde and i thought..well this poem is talking about them too. i must read it. if our song never sees the light of day, i'm glad there's still people out there like you giving them the much romanticized recognition they so righteously deserve. had a great day!

I loved that movie. I saw it when I was a kid and have been infatuated with it ever since. I like all the old gangster movies. I done a lot of research on them before I wrote this. But the romance wasn't what it seemed in the movie, they were in love but poor Clyde Barrow was impotent. No sex was involved. Isn't that a shamed as much as they were in love. Still I love the old gangsters.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
