    My Worldly Travels

I take many trips around the world
To exciting places that my eyes have yet to see
I just close my eyes and imagine I am there
    And somehow, there, I'll be.

    First I journeyed to Alaska
    That's pretty close to home.
    I visited alot of Eskimo
    Many who live in Nome.

Then it was off to Canada
    To watch the Mounties Ride
    A quick stop in Winnipeg
To pay my respects where Billy Graham died

Then I jumped on a ship and sailed to Greenland
A large Island that lie ahead
It was founded by a Norseman
Who's name was, "Eric the Red"

Then it was on to Iceland
That was my next big jump
I ran into several big Vikings
    Who were very pleasingly plump.

Ah, and the wee green land of Ireland
This beauty of a place I had longed to see
With all it's leprechauns and their pots of Gold
And the men with Kilts just below their knee

It was steadily raining in Paris
    A quite romantic little shower
    Before I continued my journey,
I had to peek at the beautiful Eiffel Tower

    Then I traveled through Italy
    In a seranading Gondola ride
Then it was on to the land of Egypt
    Where the pyramids reside.

But my favorites are the Coliseums
That still stand in the midst of Rome
This is usually my last stop
Because it's time to be going home

I think I will travel on a little farther
I am having so much fun.
I don't want to spoil it now
    I'm not nearly done.

So I hip hopped over to Holland
This is the next one that i will choose
I'll get some of that sharp cheddar cheese
And buy some clanky wooden shoes.

And Yes, the Great Wall of China
Is but yet to fill my eyes
    Astonished an amazed
At it's great length and size.

Then I'll skip over to London to see the Queen
With all her frills and frolly
    Even saw the Clydesdale Horses
    Pulling the Budwiser Trolly

    Then on to Bagdad
This is where Aladin Found his Bride
    I got to rub a jeanie's lamp
I even took a magic carpet ride.

The last stop was to the land down under
Australia is where that will be.
    I'll visit some Kangaroo's
    Maybe even see Crocodile Dundee...

You see, my worldly travels are magical,
As magical as the clouds in the skies
And the next time I want to take a visit
I only have to close my eyes...

Thank you for sharing this clever and well written poem filled with great imagery and very smooth rhythm. I love this memorable poem.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
