A Longing for the Past

A Longing for the Past

Oh to hear your words again,
Those compliments so sweet
And genuinely charming
Would have me smile now and then
But now's the sound of mourning

Oh to see you just once more
To see the smile within your eyes
Staring back, dazzling, gleaming.
Burning tears make my eyes sore
Remembering while I'm dreaming.

Oh to stand in your presence.
Your warmth fills up the room,
Dazed by lovely words once spoken,
Attracted by your essence,
You've left me sad and broken.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
