Dust Bowl

Dust Bowl

The dust had all just settled,
and there came a gust of wind.
A lonesome cry from Texas,
or an Oklahoma storm again.
No place to really go now.
It just spun around and round,
till it reached up to the Heavens,
and it made the rain come down.
The dust changed into it's slicker.
It changed it's name to mud.
It flow straight down the hillside,
and filled the town with crud.
Through boarded up soul windows,
 it found the smallest cracks,
entering the hearts of children,
and breaking strong men's backs.
It started with a rumor,
that soon became a lie,
which grew legs of it's own,
and became too strong to die.

Yep, the untamed tongue is like a lit match and eager ears are like a tinder box.

Man satisfies his ego by designating himself the prime mover in the material world, but every so often, Mother Nature feels it necessary to let him know who really calls the shots. I like the way you composed this piece with a style as stark as its subject.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
