Things That Go Bump in the Night

Ain't no monkeying around in this town sir,
that ship has long since sailed.
If it's adventure that you seek the most,
we have some cheap hotels.
You may find the natives restless sir.
They're not real fond of change,
but if you've got the benjamins,
they'll play your mindless games.

The neon will not harm your eyes.
You'll adjust soon to the glow.
You see progress left us here behind,
as we skidded down this row.
The barriers are all still in place.
Keeping out, we're all locked in.
Voting reserved our place in line.
Democracy wins again.

We do not feed the pidgeons sir,
but we do pass out some crumbs.
Nutritionally the dumb and fat,
out produce the working ones.
Red, yellow, black, and white,
in step they line this row.
At night, with no direction,
they make the green house grow.

I liked the message and the rhyme, but because it rhymes, the meter needed to be tighter. If I were you, I'd clean it up a little and you'll get more bang for your buck, or Benjamin :) Best line: "but if you've got the benjamins, / they'll play your mindless games."

Well written and political progressive way to express.

such a disturbing message delivered with poetic brilliance and a unique voice—and the rhymes are top notch! bravo!!!

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.
