    Poem Commentary

As a young child growing up in New Mexico we exercised our horses, by riding in the desert's and spooking up a jack rabbit. The horses would give chase and all you could do was hold on or spit dirt. Shortly before my tenth birthday my horse was shot and killed a month later I was taken to the suburbs of LA. The year was 1964.

    jack rabbits in the sand

Twas all but ten when they stole me away
    Silently screaming into the night
    With tears never shared

Passing headlights that lit a long black trail
    That faded into nothingness
Two red eyes laughing at the sorrow
    And a home never more

Having traversed thru times long sithened
Amidst tales of woe, and of war
Amidst tales of love, and glory's long faded
Amidst tales of brief and shimmering moments
    Amidst tales of uncounted horror's

Thank you but I shall pass
You can find me should you chose
    Betwixt a synapse or two

    Where I'm still riding horses
    Amidst the high deserts
    In the Land Of Enchantment

    Darting to and fro
And chasing jack rabbits in the sand

Nicely done. Great imagery. I especially liked the following section: Having traversed thru times long sithened Amidst tales of woe, and of war Amidst tales of love, and glory's long faded Amidst tales of brief and shimmering moments Amidst tales of uncounted horror's

Traumatic snatches of awareness, faithfully recorded, and all the more affecting for everything left conspicuously unsaid.

Wow! this poem made me want to cry and brought up some sad childhood memories for me. I appreciate the fact that you have suffered a great deal through these experiences described in the story. It breaks my heart to hear that your horse was shot and killed when you were so young and probably that was traumatic for you. I love the poem, even though it brought sadness. Very well-written and heartfelt story. I liked the ending. Great Write, full of emotion.

ty, the event was made worst as the facts and deceits where revealed that surrounded it.

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.
