Marshmallow

Who comes to claim this body,
worn and tired,
bumps and swelling limbs, aching joints ?
But stillness dances inside
fresh as a child
nameless
ageless,
not concerned
that this marshmallow on a stick
Is headed for the fire.
A fire that blazes
hotter and brighter
than any marshmallow
ever could.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
