    Not So Old Habits

Old habits should be just that
    Something that is now gone
But even though we deem them so
We are oh so horribly wrong

'Cause they're waiting in the closet
And in the long hall mirror
    Whenever you feel weakest
    They are always here

    Picking at your bones
    With their long gnarled hands
Twisting the fabric of your life
So it is far from bland

And everytime you show the scars
It feels like such a sin
    Something's pounding against your heart
    Breaking the lock from within.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
