    Not Until It's Gone

I remember all the good times
    you and I had shared,
all the love we gave each other
not to mention all the care.
You meant so much to me
more than you could ever know,
but my patience has worn out
it's time for me to go.
    It's hard to walk away
from someone who meant so much,
I'm going to miss the good times we shared
and the gentleness of your touch.
But I'd rather have my memories of you
than the pain you have given me,
    I'd much rather be alone
than have a man who pretends to be.
    When the years go by
you will think about the past,
and remember a love so strong
    that really could have last.
There's a saying that fits us best
and I believe these words are true,
    I never would have imagined
that I would be saying these words to you.
    The power of this saying
    are so true and strong,
you never know just what you have
    until you know it's gone.
