Pray for a Nightmare
It's a door in a wall, Sealed shut for an eternity,
You pull with all your might to open, Finally.
You brush aside cob webs as the dust makes you choke,
Cold stone walls with a stairway that leads into the bowels,
Of the earth, Dark they descend, You take your first step,
Turn on your flashlight hoping the batteries are fresh,
Another step then another, You hug the wall, Feeling safe,
The spiral continues, minutes to hours, Time is lost,
Air is stagnant as you start to sweat, Legs are numb,
You lean on the wall now for support, How long has it been?
You hear noises, louder now, could you be near the end,
The finale step appears in a small room, a door on the other side beckons you, As you take your last step, You pause,
The floor is glossy black with little lights blinking, You stop,
Looking close you see the stars, The moon,...............Space?
Thinking this must be a test, how else to reach the other door
You take your step....
The light changed as you step off the sidewalk,
All around you people moving, talking, walking,
Skyscrapers reaching for the clouds, yet failing to touch,
Your one in a mass, unknown, lost, Yet knowing,
Knowing a dream can be a nightmare and finding reality,
To be far worse...................
