  • Pain

    She

    She's tried so hard
    But she falls every time.
    Her heart hurts,
    She can't go on.
    This life is hard.
    They don't prepare them
    for the p a i n,
    In those big demanding schools.
    She tries to keep up,
But she's fighting a losing battle.
    She glimpses herself
    In the mirror,
    And can't recognize her reflection.
    A once bright,
    Happy,
    Beauty.
    She's none of those now.
For her pain has caught up with her
And is written all over her body
    And face.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
