Stand Ready!
The mission of a soldier
is more than to be trained for kill
and to see mortal blood shed
for mere excitement or a thrill;
Nor to randomly hunt down enemies
as practiced in routine drill
to leave them still and lifeless
heaped upon desert, beach or hill.
The duty of a soldier
never stops while we sleep
for he must stand ready
he has promises to keep;
He’s a guardian of freedom
a price that’s never cheap
exalting a will of iron
seldom shedding tear, to weep.
The service of a soldier
may take him far away
from family, friends and loved ones
who'd rather have him stay;
But, duty calls our warrior
always ready by night and day
to defend our country of freedom
and life, the American way.
The face of a soldier
is one that’s filled with pride
for boldly he has served
God’s country far and wide;
May we learn from him obedience
a professional guardian and guide
to never accept defeat
always stand ready and never hide.
The love of a soldier
must never be placed on hold
he’s survived the utmost tests
weathering heat and extreme cold;
Wrap your arms around him
he’s more valuable than gold
the soldier looks to the future
standing ready for life to unfold.
The name of a soldier
introduced as a new recruit
is a member of a team
ready to completely contribute;
Fully trained and proficient
attaining values of attribute
blessed Army of One
the American soldier we salute!

Therefore take up the whole armor of God,
that you may be able to withstand in the evil day,
and having done all, to stand.
