Roots of A Family
Through the years, a tree may grow,
bearing many fruits and flowers,
With strong roots, grown to withstand
extreme wind and thundershowers,
As it ascends, branches extend,
a fortress with many towers,
Unique in design, prone to survive,
through all its’ earthly hours.
Roots of a family, reach deep into time,
the base of heredity,
Traditions pass down, names carry on,
a means of identity,
Respect of values, confidence of manner,
reflects back on ancestry,
Leaves are shed, new buds appear,
depicting future history.
In earlier times, our forefathers strived,
to protect their clan and shire,
Strength instilled, loyalty filled,
great skills were required,
Passing of traits, both mental and flesh,
characteristics purely acquired,
Man to man, clan to clan,
morals were deeply inspired.
Stand straight and strong, bend with the wind,
depend on each other,
Abundance of kin, on this branch or that,
links each sister to brother,
Crooked or curved, all limbs begin,
with a father and a mother,
Cousins galore, twice-thrice removed,
love nurtures one another.
A pedigree tree, a lengthy lineage,
brings life to the past,
People and places, unknown and unseen,
giving a sense of forecast,
Rear up our children, leave each a legacy,
descendants will hold steadfast,
Time ticks quickly, in the eyes of God,
faith will protect and forever last.

Train up a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not depart from it.
