Summer Rain

Summer Rain

rain gently kisses
your face
as we run
for cover
under a big willow
shaking the rain
from our hair
we laugh
eyes meeting
you smile
picking  a leaf
from my shirt
so sweet you are to me
the ground is dry
and we sit
holding each other
to keep away the chill
I smell the honeysuckle
tucked behind your ear
with a  sigh
so content
in this moment
caught in a summer rain
with you

This is one of the reasons we write poetry, to capture memories and share them with others. I feel like I am there with you when I read this. Now I have to go, but I'll be back to read more. Oh, and I rarely rate poems. It's like trying to grade someone's feelings, their heart and soul. And where did you get that picture? It looks like the shiller in a labradorite stone. Very pretty.

Thank you so much for the kind words. The photo is a rainbow in my kitchen.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
