Poem Commentary

Pure inspiration; sounded good in my head.

The Hand of the Future.

A sad, sad whore
Working for her money.
Needing every bit
To avoid eviction.

The preacher's daughter
Praying for her sick, pet bunny.
The front pew many she sit
And announce her jurisdiction.

The prostitute cannot stand
The looks she receives.
But when she shakes the hand
Of the future she sees;
She pictures that white-fence.

The faithful girl cannot stand
The looks she receives.
But when she shakes the hand
Of the future she sees;
She pictures herself with her female fiance.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
