THE PRISON IS OPEN TO US ALL
The prison is open to us all
Some in, some out
For Fate than man-made
As we are played by Nature
Like pieces, nay pawns
Moving to grace or gloom.
Fate’s undesirable tool,
The blinded scale peddler
With fearless dagger drawn
Chastising the guiltless
Vindicating the transgressor
As they are tossed
Like a float on the
Wavering wavy waves on water
As they are pushed
Like pawns moving to grace or gloom
On this board of life.
Man, each of us, blessed
With vicarious Achilles’ heels
Our tragic flaws in this drama of life.
The valiant often plunge headlong
Into perdition valiantly, while
The cowardly wait for the law
With cowering cowardice
