    THE WORLD HAS ITS RULES

    The world has its rules

    but they tie us down

    to things we want not,

    putting stars in straitjacket.

But we can set the pace.

    The world has its rules

    but they hinder us

    from bold steps untaken,

    denying the world innovations.

But we can break the grounds.

    The world has its rules

    but they stop us

    using a free mind,

    toeing regressive lines of old.

But we can take the lead.

    The world has its rules

    they’re leading us astray

    The world has its rules

    they’re breaking us up

    The world has its rules

    they’re setting a slow pace

    The world has its rules

    they’re ruling instead of guiding

    The world has its rules

    we should rule the world

Man following man. Until he realizes that he too is a man. Capable of his own path. I like the message of individuality here. Breaking the chains of repetitive linear complacency. Ironic how fear is such a useful tactic. And -control- borders on the edge of -tyranny-. Enjoyed the read.

I always enjoy writers from different countries, the contrast in values, points of view. I have learned that we place most of the limits on ourselves. Poetry can be as free as your inkwell, it always has been. To be grammatical is important as Corey states. Your "Children" thogh will flow unrestricted and do need re reading. I often do not, my bad. You have the gift of the poet. You will probably will not become rich in $ but oh the ride you can have.

An interesting write, yet it leaves me wondering - what are those rules?

The 'so called' laws guiding the writing of poetry... Think of it this way, why should I write like someone else when that person wrote from his own mind? The rule we were taught in school can limit (and perhaps kill) the flow of creativity....

Ah, the writing of Poetry. - Yes, but without rules an orchestra sounds cacophonous, and games would be chaos.

Wow. Are you a rule breaker. I like this a lot. Glad I found you and hope you will be my new friend.

Rereading this: it's great. I like it very much. i tend to lowball everything. This is a gem.

Ok, rereading it again. I dig it. I don't know what the other commentary posters were talking about about different national perspectives. I think this poem doesn't reflect that. I wouldn't ascribe a nationality to it, didn't feel that. Here's what I liked: The chorus of "the world has it's rules" is a good. It can apply to anyone. The imagery after this chorus, though, was the best part; but you stopped providing that after the third stanza. Fatten those up! I like juicy morsels! You started great and then did what I do after too many beers and a loss of initiative - jotted down bare bones to be fleshed out later. This is later. ;D I don't think dropping those two extra lines per stanza made it better, even though I know it is probably to increase the intensity and pace. Just give us a few more images before the pick up of pace. Just a thought. Easy for me to say, though. Haven't written a poem in a while and have so little time . . this is great. I'm glad to finally hang out with poetry again. But, back to the poem. Uh, also the question of clarity remains. Those images are important and most appreciated.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
