A Lesser Man

A Lesser Man

Taronis – ‘02

No fight has made me victim

No fight will get the better of me now

Though I will never again

Be the man I was back then

I must be a new man and I must not lose

Though I have lost much I held dear

I still have what is most dear

And I will hold them close

And I will hope

Hope to walk and speak and breathe

Bad news, tests, disturbing results

But no fight is too hard

I will prevail, I will walk, and speak, and breathe

I will rely on those close, and keep

All those things I have always held

I am still the man I was

Though more inside these days

No more to run with the boys

No more to cast the great stone

No more to wield my sword

This life I have

With pen in hand

I resolve to go on

A lesser man

And I will walk, and speak, and breathe……….

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
