Lilacs Bloom Again
Lilacs Bloom AgainTaronis ’00
The wishes of an older man, alone now as he is
Not diminished with time, loneliness is no friend
The dreams he keeps, the mind is rich
With memories of a day
When he was young and with his bonny
On the green hills of his land
Running free with her by his side
Through the valleys and o’er the rise
To look on what may have been
To see the work so sweet
That feeling has never left him
That warmth of a woman’s breath
The love he felt as a young man
Has somehow shown again
In familiar face and deep reaching gaze
She has somehow rebuilt this ruin
And the lilacs bloom again
The fragrance of springtime now
Fills the air around
Though not the same, but always constant
A girl in full womanhood
Her breath against his cheek
She takes his hand, this mortal sprite
And makes all a cure
Now loneliness has been displaced
By her nearness and faith
She has somehow returned to him
This one lost and battered man
He took her hand, and she gave him life
For months now the flower has opened
Once again, in the fair-haired light
He plots his life with her in mind
He sets his pace on the strength she gives him
Looking upon her face
She showed again that force that holds his world
And for this he thanks the Lord
For she is in his day, and he is whole again
Though not the same as the girl he held
Long ago in the glade
She fills the form he remembers well
And fits the space time and fate has vacated
Though still the same, fire, and will, and grace
A wiser and blossomed woman is she
He knows now she is his and he hers
‘til death’s cold and awesome grasp
Separates these mortals from this earth
