    FORBIDDING WARNINGS

    Childhood warnings, I heard often…

    Avoid strangers and dark places.

Use caution near rivers and lakes.

Steer clear of sink holes which may be bottomless.

    Taking me to Never-Never Land.

     I grew older braver, bolder,

     Throughing caution to the wind,

    Forgetting warnings from the wise.

    Adventurous and seeking excitement,

Many a dark holes I fell into.

     I found entering was easy,

     Getting out was nearly impossible...

     Safety precautions were never taken,

I ponder now, what was I thinking?

Could I always climb from the bottom up?

Clawing and digging, I saw the light

    Thinking never again.

But soon I found more adventure,

Taking little precaution, I’d fall again

    Into another dark hole.

Once more, I survived the trauma,

    Weak and bewildered.

My life was a dark hole.

Would I never learn dark holes are forbidding?

We all pay the price when wisdom isn’t taken!

A well written poem. If we would just try to heed warnings before we have to pay the consequences. You're not alone in having to crawl and fight to get out of those holes.

I take it you have a penchant for 'locating' uncovered city sewer system entrances! The majority of ancient wisdom seems to have been relegated to the artificial winds of progress. And of course, it's thereby not progress in the truest sense. Warnings and learning are a precarious pair - can one really learn everything in life safely and vicariously? Not really, therefore experimenting is a cornerstone of life for better or worse. Excellent subject matter for poetry! I'd give you a 12, but the ending was a little vague, lol! ~X~

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.
