    Forlorn The Fallen

Quick drawn high towards heaven's nigh,
Beguiled, debauched, plummet souls not aligned.
Bedlam therein, a bane on dark wings rises
Painting a shadow cast, far beyond the Erebus line.
    Ere stood, yet still denied;
    Beelzebub's bile and foreboding sign.

It was not fate that drove the stake,
That pierced the fallen from calling's way.
Made ever clear with dirges and woes.
Sweet angels saddened sang in ode.
    Black violins and oboes joined
    Playing heavily heaven's cry.

'It is true, It is true,' lament they
    Beyond redemption's renew.
'It is true, it is true,' wail wildly they
    'It was Christ who knew,
    For what profits a man,
    If he gains the world,
But the soul he does lose.'

Thus I say with vigor and truth,
Forlorn the fallen, if be it me,
    Or foremost, you

This piece was written early in 1985 and was given to me while working a night shift at a nursing home. This like many of my favorite pieces I have written are I feel gifts from another realm. My task as an artist is to present the images and ideas in the greatest possible formulation and arrangement. Thus the reader is given the highest intention from the which muse inspired its host.

This piece surprises me occasional when I reread it for its almost channeled Gothic tone.

This is the oldest of my works, written some 24 years ago but still remains a favorite of mine along with its sister poem of the same time period, "Past The Gates And Graves".

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.
