Old Photograph

Stumbled on to and old photograph

One of those that made me laugh

Then I came across another

This one made my life stutter

I might could have gone without that reminder

But fate has its own way for me to find her

I remembered how things were so happy

How I thought things were supposed to be

Time changes everything inside and out

Appearances and emotions are equal I don’t doubt

To see her as the one I fell in love with

It was almost like believing in a myth

The person she was then seems so far gone

But the person I was is just as far gone

Who are these people that no longer exist?

Just things forgotten on another list

Its not fair knowing these fake personalities

Remembering the fun and love is a horrible tease

It makes me want to wake up in a dream and stay asleep

It sounds so selfish but its something I want to keep

But if we saw each other today it would be a joke

Sitting across the bar we say hi through the smoke

Words don’t go any further that that

All because we know that is that.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
