    Sympathy And Apathy

I’m becoming desensitized to my feelings
I’m becoming desensitized to the world
I’m becoming desensitized to the warmth
I’m becoming desensitized to the cold

    Ignorance may be bliss
    In your minuscule extent limitation
    Unaware of infinite expansive potential
But a realization of absolute truth
    Without an impact on emotion
    Is vastly more gratifying

I’m becoming desensitized to my feelings
I’m becoming desensitized to the world
I’m becoming desensitized to the warmth
I’m becoming desensitized to the cold

No one is a victim of this hell
We’ve all had our part in creating it
    Every good deed
Has the potential to cause harm
    Every bad deed
Has the potential to do good
    Even doing nothing
    Has its spectrum of effects
As you play out your deviations
    I no longer have regrets

I’m becoming desensitized to my feelings
I’m becoming desensitized to the world
I’m becoming desensitized to the warmth
I’m becoming desensitized to the cold

I Don't know why or how
I would try and explain this to a person
It would be like trying to explain the sensation
Of doing somersaults to an invalid
Both unable to imagine a feeling
    Better than the one
    They can only ever know
Maybe in my exclusion of sympathy
    In my neutralization of apathy
I’ll finally be free to grow

I’m becoming desensitized to my feelings
I’m becoming desensitized to the world
I’m becoming desensitized to the warmth
I’m becoming desensitized to the cold

    As a sympathetic
    Or an apathetic
    Either way you go
    Which ever one you choose
    You are still consummately pathetic

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
