    Poem Commentary

The great truth of dispair that lies before us all

    Winding Labyrinth of Lunacy

    Abysmal Lunacy
    Sociopathic tendencies
    Never had control
    Youth slips into bitter dismay
    Every dream crushed
    One by one
    Everything goes away
    Nothing to say
    We all die alone
I don't know what its like
    To be anyone else
    I've felt for so long
I no longer feel a thing
    Sensory adaptation
    Kills every sensation
    Thats what I always wanted
    But now that it's gone
I wish I could be free again
    Abysmal Lunacy
    Sociopathic tendencies
    I don't know what it's like
I've forgotten what it means to be free

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
