The Continuous Fight

Poem Commentary

I wrote this particular piece to show what affects street violence have on people. Also the affect of being alone in the midst of a war...battling demons on your own.

The Continuous Fight

take a breath
my hands are shaking, awake
i found myself in the same place i was before
caught in circles
i turn the corner
there is no end to this war
no end in sight
how long have my friends been dead?
i can't say what i feel right now
i just saw something i shouldnt have
i swallow and hide, holding my breath
what can this mean for me?
there he is
in a bundle, brand new in this world
i cry
what the fuck did i just do?
i dont want this new life to run into this wall of hate
i have to stop, now...
i have to leave for awhile...
i have to go...

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
