falling in unison

falling in unison

All things decided to fall in unison
I need quick escape routes from the pain
You're the most fascinating person I ever laid eyes on
Now I must filter it all away until I feel numb again

Don't force me to think, I could never decide
You're hallucinating, darling, and perhaps so am I
Being certain about such matters has always been my pride
Now "no" would not be honest and a "yes" would be a lie

Why can't I simply hide?
My, how easier it would be -
Why do you look at my scars (and I push you aside)
As if not knowing they are a part of me?

I don't know how to deal with my confusion
Not wanting to admit a desire? No, I wouldn't say so
It's just some sort of conscious illusion
But then... why can't I let you go?

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
