    Poem Commentary

Rubies are nice but I like garnet better.

    Garnet

    She's a princess
    Deep ruddy complexion
    Aglow not with fire
    Not like an ember
    But like the ocean

    She's a castaway
    A gypsy
    Snow White
    Banished by the queen

    She will always
    Be a princess
    Though her depth
    Plummets to infinity
    She is not to rule

    She has a name
    But it's not as lovely
    As she is
    She deserves better
    But she steps aside

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
