Seeds To Tend

I watched for you that day
I hoped for one last look
I prayed and prayed that we could stay
But we had to go

I was sad and numb but felt the pain
I heard the voice of doom
My heart sang one last dire refrain
As we drove away

Looking back from here and now
I think I understand
How these feelings came to plow
The soil of my heart

Furrows dug in fertile ground
The seeds of love were planted
Tended and nutured, loves tendrils bound
The cause of my hearts pain

True love needs but one heart only
In which to grow and spread
From heart to heart the high and lowly
Have the seeds to tend

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
