I Decided

  • Thinking about writing something new cause it's been a while.

I Decided

I decided I was selfish
And needed to cast aside
My expectations and desires
And focus on the person

I realized that I was looking
At the world through an eye
So myopic
All I could see
Was my own hand
In front of my face

A hand
Full of my own agendas
And my own desires
A hand full of me
And my problems

I decided to reach out
With that hand
And touch someone
But to do that
I had to drop what was in my hand
And fill that hand with love
And wisdom
And forgiveness

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
