Poem Commentary

have you ever looked long enough and deep enough into the mirror as to see a stranger staring back at you???

Mirror Mirror

Mirror mirror on the wall,
Who is that stranger that I saw???
In that reflection from once you gave,
Why is it you don't behave???

Please show me the image of my true self,
And not tease me with this illusion of lies,
Who is this person who hides in disguise?

This stranger who resides in the shadows of my form,
My inner mind and outward body to transform,
Into the darkness of the beast,
The light of my inner soul has become his feast.

Why is it that I can no longer see my reflection,
All I can see is the mirage of my imperfection,
The evil of sins and the blood lust of sorrow,
The dark incarnation of the devil's marrow.

My inner mind his playground for fun,
Is it possible for the evil to be undone,
For salvation of my mortal sins,
The purity of the inner light that always wins.

As I gaze into his eyes so cold,
The darkness of the eternal night I shall behold,
Once a shadow now stands a man,
The damnation of my soul his only plan.

Mirror mirror on the wall,
Why is it I can not recall,
The image of purity and innocence lost,
My immortal soul that paid the cost.

When did the stranger that I see,
Become me???

it's amazing that you would direct me to this piece as I've been recently contemplating using this metaphor myself. Of course, you've done it so well I may not bother - but then you never know what the muse with demand :) this is very deep, and very true - it is hard to face the mirror sometimes only to face ones own emptiness and self loathing. but those who manage it with intent generally come out ahead I think (I hope!).

Wow very powerful piece until the end, when things look you straight into the face and understand who you really are is very strong to see in words.

-that last line cinched it!! I believe we all have an ugly reflection from time to time/ and sometimes find conflict with others when they hold up these images- ya know... the reason I think this write is so powerful, is the self-awareness, and the admittance in the work. I love this write, and feel this work is truely a reflection to all who dare to really percieve the meaning- great mind-melter., Maddi

to be honest I was alittle hesitant to post this one as it is very untammed and naked look at my soul, a side of myself I am not proud of but is still there. This poem is poweful because of its raw nature and selfawareness, knoweldge is power. One of my all time fav quotes is", the only thing I know for certain is that I know nothing, the only thing worth knowing is thyself, and it is a life long goal", socrates... I have found alot of wisedom in this simple quote and it is the basis of my reflection in the mirror, the looking glass self... angel

This is freaking amazing, Angel...and yes, I know the stranger...better than I would care to admit. This is such a profound piece...stripping all pretense from the soul right down to the battle within between darkness and light in the chilling truth of its reality within each of us. Be careful, my friend...that mirror turns into a mighty deep rabbit hole.

rabbit hole, now isn't that the truth, too late, fell so deep into the hole it became a abyss of darkness, but in the depths of the darkness I found the truth of myself and life, hidden in the darkest of places is often the purest of light... angel

that was so powerful and so easy to relate to, if you read some of my older poems I too have walked through the path of darkness and uncertainty but God is a loving God who shed, amazing grace, and no he will never leave you. Darkness last but for the night, Hope cometh in the morning. For thou oh lord are a shield for me the glory and the lifter of mine head

I knew when I wrote this mosrt people would miss the intended meaning, but in truth it for the reader, not the writter to determine the meaning within as they use there own perspective and past life experiences to find such a meaning. For me this poem was more of a metaphysical representation of the inner human spirit, raw in nature, as we are all born into sin and damnation. It is only through the grace of God's love and the blood of his son Christ that we find such a salvation. The question I pondered when I wrote this, is this. Even though the blood of christ washes away the sins of our past and cleanses us pure of spirit, our mind and body still hold fast to the darkness of sin. Who can say in all honesty that once they were saved that they never again sinned, I know I can't say this myself. I do repent and I know God forgives, and our salvation is upheld, yet the sin and our inner demons still remain, they never quite seem to go away, atleast not in this life... Thank you for such kind comments and such an insightful review, it is always grealty appreciated and welcome! Purity of the soul, journey well!!! with grace and humility ANGEL

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.
