    Redneck City Girl

Much of my life spent in Milwaukee,
The biggest city in our state,
It may be nothing compared to L.A., NYC, or Chicago,
    But it's huge to me,
    A city girl,
    Born and raised,

    Rock and Roll,
Bring on the blues, pop, and r&b too,
But if you want to know where my heart really is,
    Turn on 106.1
    Country makes my heart sing,
I'm just a redneck city girl,

    I like it all,
    I dance to electronic music,
    I headbang along with Disturbed,
I even like to sing along with Christina,
Music is my passion, my soul,
But, it's country that's got me going strong,

They say the fields and the mud is where it's at,
    But, I beg to differ,
I like the city lights, the noise, and nightlife,
And, I still have just as much soul as the farmer down south,
Patsy, Garth, Reba, Kenny, and Gretchen,
    Yeah, that's my kinda thing,

You don't have to live on an old county hwy,
To like and appreciate country music,
You don't even have to own a cowboy hat,
You just have to feel the music in your heart,
Yankee Doodle may be my name,
But in my voice, you'll be known to hear a southern twang.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
