Understudy
There she is,
Up on stage,
You can't take your eyes off her,
She's amazing,
Beautiful and fun,
I stand there behind the curtains,
Unseen and unknown,
I'm only here for "just in case"
If it all falls apart,
I get to save the day,
You tell me you care,
You say that I matter,
But, usually I feel invisible,
While you chase after someone else,
I wait here alone,
Then when she hurts you,
Like they all do,
You call me,
Saying you miss me,
And, that you care,
You don't want a relationship,
That's what you always say,
But, it never takes long,
Before you're chasing another star,
Leaving me alone behind the scenes,
I'm tired of being your convenient lover,
I'm tired of being your sometimes friend,
I want to be in the limelight,
I want to be someone's star,
I'm done being the understudy.
