Space and Time
Were you trying to fit yourself in again?
In all the beauty of the world...
I can't claim what is heaven sent
Everything's spinning in a glorious whirl.
Nothing I could ever say or do
could alter our misgivings
but through it all I saw my way...
the path, and I caught up to you.
Yes without logic...
standing here within space and time.
No magic to report
No cynical retort
Just sitting there listening to your rhyme
together we built a fort.
Pieces fit together
in the oddest of ways
I could've sat there waiting
just passing through my days
but it didn't take you long
to take my hand and run
before I thought of anything
we were out and in the sun
Space and time were in and around us
But through everything a thread
we couldn't see 'cause all the dust
to eachother back it lead.
I knew just what to feel
the way you grasped my hand
I heard you crying in the night
you're heart turning to sand
And yes...
when the wind blew at your soul
your heart crumbled like sand
I lovingly picked every single grain
and tenderly stitched with my own hands
Without a word...
I knew exactly each grain's place
my own heartstrings as my thread.
your scars, with my fingers, I gently traced
and I knew the pain they read.
I guess I must have heard you
before I knew to listen
I started in that direction
as you called out in the distance
I started out just wandering
I started out just there
I started out just thinking
where to go, just where?
I think I must have heard you
before I knew to hear
God sent me through the bushes
So I could calm your fear
So in you, a friend, I could confide
My heart I would no longer hide
God sent you wandering in the field
So for that I may have a shield
I know I must have heard you
I know because we're here..
Amid all the chances,
and despite all of our fears.
Through random space and time
our meeting quite did not make sense
Oh how our paths combined!
With random speeds we did progress
Me with space...
and you with time.
