    Poem Commentary

    This poem came about when I was in a moment of thinking of someone I had lost. My room mate just woke up and as he passed by me he noticed I was looking sort of down and asked me if i was OK. I lied and told him I was great why? He said Oh I thought I saw a tears in your eyes. I lied again and said no I just yawned. It was crazy because my room mate doesn't notice anything about anyone due to the fact he suffers severe dep[ression. So this small poem immediately came to the forefront of my mind.

    Subtle Sympathy

    Subtle Sympathy

    Appreciate the slight gesture;

    the brief condolence,

    From this I cannot hide,

    Must of caught the glimmer;

    the tear in my eye.

    Had to bid-farewell-

      to that one,

    you know: the Sun;

    just before the rain comes.

    Before

    I come

    Undone..

    Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
