    Forever Valentine

    -

    -

People would need flowers this day

Boxed candies and chocolates to play

Some fine sweet music over dinner just to say

The same words, I tell you everyday

    -

Some would rather let the day pass

Others would not give thought on what they have

Or would rather spend it alone

In jealousy and envy at home

    -

But what we have is different

Something more precious and more felt

No need for a special calendar date or schedule

To something more divine and sure

    -

    You are my forever valentine

My love for forever through time

My beginning and my end, my last

'Till the hands of time turn to rust

    -

Love, this day passed unusually fast

Now that I run home, at last!

To see you, to be with you and be alive

You are my forever, Valentine, my love.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
