    Forty Years

Forty years now seems so long
We were just kids it seems so wrong
We met while you were on holiday
You came from England to Belfast for a stay
My mum and your mum they had all ready knew
They were sister yes its true.

That makes us cousins I suppose
Back then you had a cheeky grin
long black hair and you were so thin
I was cute and very small as we stood at
auntie Lily's wall we all posed and said cheese
As on the camera button uncle Tommy did squeeze

We had such fun but you had to go back home
To England yes I know 'forty years later you've come
back still a cheeky grin but hair no longer black
Lots of water under the bridge we have all grown up
And had our own kids uncle Tommy's no longer here
Aunt Lily's wall is no were near.

So we look at photos and reminisce of days long ago
When we looked like this your mum has gone now
And mine is ill we are all getting older and over the hill
We still have our memories of long ago
Of two little girls who still had to grow
Where oh where did all the years go

A richly evocative composition. Fond memories are fine company, and you do them great justice in your account.

Wow-good focus on the years-I saw snapshots floating through my mind.
