Nothing's Wrong

Nothing's Wrong

"What's wrong?"
They ask
As the tears fill my eyes
"Nothing"
My parents are together
My family is healthy
No one has died
So nothing in my world seems wrong
But they don't understand
The pain inside
Sadness
Confusion
The horror of not knowing
 Who I really am inside
Frustration, not visible to the outside world
"We can't help you unless you tell us"
Sadly, your help doesn't reach me
You only criticize my feelings
Increasing the inner pain
"Nothing's wrong."
Ha. Ha.
What a lie...

This is so on point. You capture the essence of inner pain, something that you correctly identify as not necessarily having an outer cause, but is so easily stirred up by others' poking and prodding. Please keep writing. :)

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
