Why people write

Why people write

There is nowhere for the words to go but out
Colors, Feelings, Scents, Tastes
Boil over inside you,
Spill out of your brain.

So, you write,
You tell what you have been through,
What sorrow,
What pain,
What happiness,
What power,
So strong, it can't be kept in.

When you write, you take a part of your whole.
You put it up on a wall.
Where people read it.
And touch it.
And analyze it.
And judge it.
They twist and turn your soul to their own view.
Your skin is now glass.
They can see all your life
as it churns and turns inside you.

It hurts to pin yourself on a wall,
Emotionally Naked,
All can see you.
Who you are.
What you do.
How much courage does it take to let others read your life,
and learn?

Writers are not the hidden ones,
Who work in concealed meanings,
and shrink behind unusual comparisons.
Writers are the
Transparent
Candid
Proud
Courageous
People
who tell all
That others will never speak
And
Define our lives
When we
Cannot.
