Life in the Gutter

Poem Commentary

I wrote this while watching a movie on gang violence.

Life in the Gutter

A single drop, a gem betrayed
Lives taken, the blood price paid
One last goodnight kiss, eyes closed tight
One more lost to crimson night

A chorus of whispering Death
Melodies that haunt, bereft
Memories long since forgotten
Respect with hands ill-gotten

Silent wars fought with poison and blade
Changes in policy made
A group united has its way
In the night as well as day
