Poem Commentary

This one is dedicated to my friend, Franziska, who has horrible luck with love. Did you catch the "The Princess and the Tin Box" reference? It was written by James Thurber.

AnnEx

You were once my only obsession,
An illusion to my perception,
Until I saw your true reflection
And knew you to be false
I thought there was something wrong with me
A twisted flaw that I couldn't see
And often wondered, "How could this be?"
And I was at a loss

But now there will be no more heartache
I've severed our bonds, you vile snake!
This precious heart is not yours to break!
Now I know what you are!
Oh, you may have thrown me for a curve,
Had me charmed, very willing to serve,
I'm not a princess, but I deserve
More than tin and feldspar

This is beautifully written and I love the rhyme scheme you've used. I think everyone can use a reminder of this sort every now and then... definitely a relatable subject. Well done :)

Thank you very much for reading and the comment!

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
