One Phrase
Alone in this darkness, I hide
From the pain that I feel inside.
One phrase haunts my hollow pride -
Oh curse the words of the heart!
One phrase, and my world was broken.
The silence echoed the words you'd spoken.
This stark desolation's my only token
For my foolish, worthless part!
What a shock it was that day;
It chilled me just to hear you say
You didn't feel for me that way,
That it all was just a ruse.
Cold and strangely empty, my feet
Didn't even miss a beat
As I passed you on the street.
I've never felt so used.
Why won't this feeling go away?
Is this hollowness to always stay?
I can no longer hold this emptiness at bay,
Nor can I care enough to try.
So here where the hours flow
I watch you come and I watch you go,
Wondering if you did ever really know
How much I'd wanted to believe that lie.
From the pain that I feel inside.
One phrase haunts my hollow pride -
Oh curse the words of the heart!
One phrase, and my world was broken.
The silence echoed the words you'd spoken.
This stark desolation's my only token
For my foolish, worthless part!
What a shock it was that day;
It chilled me just to hear you say
You didn't feel for me that way,
That it all was just a ruse.
Cold and strangely empty, my feet
Didn't even miss a beat
As I passed you on the street.
I've never felt so used.
Why won't this feeling go away?
Is this hollowness to always stay?
I can no longer hold this emptiness at bay,
Nor can I care enough to try.
So here where the hours flow
I watch you come and I watch you go,
Wondering if you did ever really know
How much I'd wanted to believe that lie.
