MY EYES
My Eyes see the Hunger;
In an old man's face; As we sit beside
His box and talk about his late wife
And The Good Ole Days
My Eyes see the Pain;
That an old vet Just can't hide
As he sits in his chair On the corner of a
Busy street with a sign that reads
"Homeless and Hungry, God Bless"
My Eyes see the Tears;
Spilling down a young mothers cheeks
When a passerby gives just a little change
So tonight the children will eat.
My Eyes See the hopelessness
In an old prostitute's face, So jaded
From the only life she has ever known
My Eyes See the Fear;
In the faces of those new to the streets,
Not sure how they got here,
Not sure how to get away
My Eyes see the Resignation
In the faces of those who have been
Here as long as they can remember
And they know and accept that the will die here.
My eyes see the Streets,
I walk them every day.
Bringing food for the old man
In his box whenever I can
Collecting change for the old vet in his chair
So he don't get hurt in traffic
Watching the children for a young mother
So she can look for work
Giving a prostitute a hug
So she knows someone cares
Giving a kind word to those that are new
So they don't feel so alone
Standing here now with those who have
Been here longer than I.
Beside a coffin
Paying my final respects
To a Friend
TIME FORGOT
And no one but the Streets
Will Remember
Dedicated to "puppy' and "little patch" and all those out here
Time forgot and only the streets remember
