"Hugging My Father"
All his memories are mine
the last century we spanned
Sometimes ... hand in hand
Listening to stories and global feats
With total success and minor defeats
His essence would echo in my life’s plan
I followed a path as he did indeed
Success some less and some the most
A similar experience where we did succeed
But was reluctant as he... to actually boast
For he had shared with me
“In true focus you can be
Stay the course never give up the ghost
In humble success never an outspoken Prost”
But he was never truly an embracing hugger
As an infant he lost both his father and mother
With stoic Germanic roots under his cover
a quick handshake no emotion is discovered
Then in his older years now somewhat frail
my brothers noted embrace that I would impale
'How do you do it?' They didn't understand
'My only greeting is his extension of hand'
‘Ignore prevention... his hand extension
It’s simple to defeat his fragile prevention’
Just grab him like Christmas and Santa's sack
and he will succumb and hug you right back
In those final years I didn’t see him enough
but when I did... he proposed no bluff
His arms were accepting and open wide
with a fatherly hug and the love inside.
My brothers too shared in my revealing revelation
To hold one they loved… in mutual exhilaration
the last century we spanned
Sometimes ... hand in hand
Listening to stories and global feats
With total success and minor defeats
His essence would echo in my life’s plan
I followed a path as he did indeed
Success some less and some the most
A similar experience where we did succeed
But was reluctant as he... to actually boast
For he had shared with me
